Our History
Our History
2022
FILTEC establishes a central government division to enable us to deliver compliant water treatment solutions on a national scale. This team secures a $27 mil. contract to deliver treatment systems to rural communities throughout New Zealand, including a 5 year operations component.
2021
FILTEC appoints an experienced Business Development Manager to expand our services into the Queensland and northern New South Wales regions.
2021
FILTEC launches our UF 2/10 Membrane Skid product. Designed in-house, this robust skid-mounted solution that meets and exceeds the performance required by New Zealand Drinking Water Standards.
2019
FILTEC launches our residential range of water treatment products and our partner channels throughout New Zealand.
2019
FILTEC acquires Practical Filtration Solutions (PFS) and opens it’s Melbourne Office at Mt Waverley.
2017
FILTEC continue to grow and expand their capabilities.
2017
FILTEC International Pty is formed, allowing FILTEC to operate in the Australian market. The first full time Australian is employed to lead our Australian operations.
2016
FILTEC is awarded a $6 mil. contract to deliver the design and build of water and wastewater services to the dairy sector.
2016
FILTEC commended for is involvement in the IPWEA NZ Excellence award for best public works project under $5m the Mangawhai Water Treatment Plant.
2015
FILTEC commended for its involvement in the Tokomaru water treatment plant as winner for the Local Government NZ infrastructure project of the year.

Matt Ewen, Managing Director of FILTEC, receives Young Water Professional award from Water New Zealand.
2014
FILTEC moves to a purpose fit out facility in Mt Wellington allowing them the capability to expand the offering. A world class engineering design office and fabrication facility as well as a stock management and control centre housing all the spare components required to look after our clients.
2013
An advisory board is appointed allowing the company to have a strong governance structure. A significant investment programme begins, in people plant and processes.
2012
Graeme Thacker retires, majority shareholding is taken on by Managing Director Matt Ewen who had been working in the business for a number of years at this point.
1991
Company founded by Graeme Thacker and Craig Freeman as a management buy-out of the Mac Ewans Water Treatment Division.

FILTEC holds an ISO 14001 accreditation for our environmental management system (EMS).
As part of our commitment to sustainable practice, we work with Toitu Envirocare to limit carbon emissions. FILTEC is also part of the Sustainable Business Network which helps to change the way we work by putting nature first.
Social Responsibility
FILTEC are committed to making communities safer, not only with advanced water and wastewater solutions, but also supporting non-profit organisations and initiatives that benefit our communities.
FILTEC are proud to be an annual supporter of the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust. For the past years, we have sponsored 18 rescues.
FILTEC have donated to Special Children’s Christmas Parties for the past few years.
FILTEC supports the Motuihe Island Restoration Trust – through our involvement as a trustee.
