In 2016, Havelock North the campylobacter contamination prompted the Hastings District Council to address water treatment system deficiencies for the provision of small community drinking water. In response FILTEC delivered six containerised small community drinking water plants.

To address unsafe rural drinking water supply in small remote communities, a pilot Rural Drinking Water programme was launched. Six marae across Gisborne, Bay of Plenty, and Great Barrier Island needed water treatment upgrades. FILTEC designed and delivered the new water treatment systems.
