UV Disinfection for Water Reclamation and Reuse
Coliban Water needed to replace the outdated UV disinfection system at the Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant to ensure continued performance and regulatory compliance. The plant treats wastewater from around 15,500 people in Castlemaine and nearby towns, enabling non-potable reuse for local applications. The new system had to be installed without disrupting ongoing water treatment operations and within the constraints of an aging facility.
Complex UV Installation for Water Reuse in Victoria
FILTEC supplied and installed a TrojanUV3000Plus unit alongside the existing UV system to maintain continuous disinfection. However, the new UV unit could not fit inside the existing building. To resolve this, we removed half the shed, reinstated the wall, and constructed a new external mounting platform.

Custom Structural Design for Water Reuse Infrastructure
We designed a concrete support structure to align the new UV unit with legacy connection points—challenging due to limited access and a discharge pipe located beneath the UV outlet tank. Onsite detailing ensured precise alignment and a fully integrated fit within the existing water treatment system.
Safe UV Maintenance Access for Non-Potable Systems
To support long-term maintenance, we installed a custom access platform with a monorail gantry for lamp rack removal. This efficient design reduced the platform size and allowed for a cleaner, safer lifting direction—an approach we’ve successfully used at Kyneton and Rockby water reclamation plants for other water reuse projects.
Long-Term Water Reuse Capability with Ongoing Support
The upgraded UV system strengthens disinfection performance at the Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant, enabling reliable non-potable reuse and environmental compliance. FILTEC continues to support the plant through ongoing preventative maintenance, including UV lamp, wiper, and seal replacements—helping Coliban Water sustain safe, efficient water treatment for the region.
