FILTEC and Toray Partner to Deliver Advanced UF Membrane Technology in Australia and New Zealand
FILTEC and Toray have formalised a partnership to deliver advanced ultrafiltration membrane solutions for our council and industrial customers.

Strengthening the Filtec–Toray Partnership
FILTEC and Toray have entered a formal partnership agreement following several years of collaboration on membrane filtration projects across Australia and New Zealand.
The agreement strengthens FILTEC’s ability to supply and support Toray ultrafiltration (UF) membrane technology, combining Toray’s global membrane manufacturing capability with FILTEC’s regional engineering expertise and service network.
Toray develops membrane technologies used worldwide in drinking water, wastewater, and industrial process applications. Through this partnership, FILTEC will continue supporting Toray membrane solutions across new projects, plant upgrades, and membrane replacement programmes throughout the region.

What This Means for Our Customers
For councils and industrial manufacturers operating membrane filtration plants, the partnership provides improved access to high-performance UF membrane solutions supported locally by FILTEC’s engineering and technical teams.
FILTEC provides support across the full membrane lifecycle — from technology selection and plant assessments through to installation, commissioning, optimisation, and ongoing technical support.
Technicians and process engineers operating across New Zealand and Australia assist with membrane change-outs, integrity testing, troubleshooting, and plant optimisation.
Advanced UF Membrane Technology
Toray’s PVDF ultrafiltration membrane modules are designed for drinking water treatment, industrial process water, and reverse osmosis pretreatment applications.
The membranes feature a 0.01 µm pore size, enabling tighter removal of fine particles and pathogens compared with conventional 0.1 µm microfiltration (MF) membranes.
Toray’s proprietary manufacturing process produces hollow fibres with high mechanical strength and resistance to fibre breakage, helping maintain membrane integrity during operation.
The modules also provide increased membrane surface area, allowing plants to achieve greater treatment capacity within the same footprint.

Retrofit Opportunities for Existing MF Plants
Toray UF membrane modules are designed as a direct retrofit for many Pall and Asahi MF membrane systems, enabling operators to upgrade filtration performance without major plant modifications.
The modules maintain similar connection points and module length while providing increased membrane surface area. This allows plants to transition from 0.1 µm MF to 0.01 µm UF filtration within the same footprint.
For operators managing ageing membrane assets, this provides a practical pathway to improve filtration performance while maintaining existing plant configuration.
