Purpose-Built Drinking Water Treatment for an Alpine Resort
Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort required a complete upgrade of its ageing drinking water treatment plant to improve water quality, strengthen disinfection performance and provide reliable operation in a challenging alpine environment.
Highly organic source water, seasonal demand fluctuations and limited operator intervention required a robust, automated treatment solution. FILTEC designed and built a complete packaged water treatment plant incorporating multiple treatment barriers, modern process control and remote monitoring to deliver safe, reliable drinking water for the resort.
Safe Drinking Water in a Challenging Alpine Environment
The existing treatment process struggled to maintain reliable water quality due to elevated organics and seasonal operating conditions. The upgrade required:
Treatment of high-organic water
Improved chlorine residuals
Automated plant operation
Integration within existing building
Robust operation in a remote alpine environment
The new plant needed to improve operational reliability while supporting long-term drinking water quality.

Multi-Barrier Water Treatment with Automated Process Control
FILTEC designed the treatment plant around multiple treatment barriers to improve water quality and operational resilience. The treatment process incorporates:
Inline coagulation
AFM media filtration
Lead/lag Granular Activated Carbon filtration
Validated UV disinfection
Sodium hypochlorite dosing and PLC control
The integrated process improves removal of suspended solids and organics while providing reliable disinfection and automated operation.

Integrated Design and Off-Site Prefabrication
FILTEC designed, fabricated and factory tested the treatment plant as three skid-mounted process assemblies before installation, improving quality control and reducing onsite programme risk.
Skid-mounted assemblies
Mechanical & electrical integration
Instrumentation & remote monitoring
Automated duty/standby operation
Factory-tested before installation
The packaged approach simplified installation while delivering a compact treatment plant suited to the constrained alpine site.
Remote Monitoring and Ongoing Servicing
Comprehensive commissioning verified treatment performance, control functionality and automated plant operation before handover.
Factory Acceptance Testing
Process commissioning and validation
PLC and control system verification
Operator training
Remote monitoring and service support
FILTEC continues to support ongoing plant operation through remote monitoring capability and servicing, reducing operational burden for resort staff.

A Modern Drinking Water Treatment Plant for Mount Baw Baw
The completed Mount Baw Baw Water Treatment Plant delivers:
Multi-barrier treatment
Improved management of organic-rich source water
Automated remote monitoring
Reliable year-round alpine operation
Long-term drinking water resilience
By combining proven treatment technologies with integrated design, prefabrication and automation, FILTEC delivered a purpose-built drinking water treatment plant tailored to one of Australia's most demanding alpine operating environments.
