General Role Description
The role of the Process Engineer is to complete safe, efficient, and cost-effective design for Filtec’s tenders and projects. The role will be focused on process-related deliverables and will also be involved with support to the delivery and commissioning phases across Filtec’s portfolio of projects in all areas of the business. This will include:
- Providing ‘big picture’ and concept solutions to Filtec’s process design and deliverable activities, including provision of “Front End Engineering Design” and back office support to Front line Sales Staff.
- Building on Filtec’s relationships with vendors and suppliers and keeping up to date with the latest technologies.
- Working towards being a “Subject Matter Expert” in specific processes or equipment, relevant to Filtec’s customer offering and offer to market.
- Providing strong leadership to the ‘process design’ related activities within Filtec.
- Ensuring timely delivery of design packages and proactively directing design effort into value-add activities.

- Providing peer-review of designs completed by others and working collaboratively to improve on designs.
- Provide support to site staff for installation queries.
- Providing support to site staff for commissioning queries.
- Providing on-site support for Hot Commissioning, Commissioning, Process Tuning and Fault Finding.
- Meeting routinely with Filtec’s Project Managers throughout the duration of projects to monitor design and commissioning progress and resolve technical issues.
- Reviewing plant performance and chemical consumption and executing recommendations to improve the performance. Specifically, supporting and organically growing Filtec’s “Plant Service and Optimisation” offering to commercial and municipal clients.
- Seeking standardisation and re-use of design and associated documentation to maximise resource effectiveness.
- Reviewing tender specifications and clearly communicating opportunities, non-compliances and risks to design.
- Applying strong commercial acumen to design and delivery and always seeking to maximise Filtec’s profitability.
- Building strong and enduring relationships with Filtec’s Clients and their Consulting Engineers.
- Driving continuous improvement and innovation to increase design efficiencies across the organisation.
- Providing mentoring and coaching, creating team objectives and delivering training to develop the capability of the team.
Specific Tasks:
- Provide leadership and sharing of experience with fellow Process and Design Engineers in a collaborative manner to achieve set deliverables and KPI’s
- Support preparation of detailed design deliverables, including PID’s, process and hydraulic calculations, functional descriptions, operations & maintenance manuals and layouts
- Collaborate with other designers and trades to ensure successful turnkey design
- Work with Bid Manager to ensure accurate preliminary designs
- Facilitate and partake in internal and external HAZOP meetings
- Continually seek to develop own knowledge of all processes and technologies within the water and wastewater treatment industry
Required Experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification, i.e. BE or ME, (Chemical, Process etc)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in design/build activities in the process and/or water sector
- In-depth understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes
- At least 5 years’ Mechanical and process design experience
- Leadership acumen
- Excellent commercial awareness
- Excellent communication skills.
